Pros

  1. When it comes to digital marketing, it offers a variety of options to engage with a potential audience. You can use social media, email marketing, and content marketing, etc. to market your products and services.
  2. The digital medium allows you to directly engage with your customers, such as comments, emails, and podcasts, etc.
  3. Analytics and measurement of ad campaigns is the biggest benefit of digital marketing. The data you gather allows you to improve your ad campaigns in real-time.
  4. Targeted ads are possible with digital marketing. You can reach the audience that you want, and it’s not possible with traditional modes of marketing.

Cons

  1. One of the disadvantages of digital marketing is that ads can become annoying to users. Think of this, if you’re watching a YouTube and you’re enjoying it, and suddenly an ad interrupts your video, annoying? Right?!
  2. As compared to traditional marketing, the digital marketing ads are not permanent; users can ignore the ad, or when a user jumps to another webpage and *poof*, your ad is gone.

Pros and Cons of Traditional Marketing

Traditional marketing uses traditional media such as billboards, posters, taxi/bus wraps, TV & radio ads, print media, direct mails, display signs, and telemarketing, etc. Like digital marketing, traditional marketing has its advantages and disadvantages.

Pros

  1. Traditional marketing ad campaigns create more impact as compare to digital marketing. The TV ad or a stunning billboard will live in people’s memory as compared to a digital ad that a user scrolled once in his or her social media feed.
  2. As compared to digital marketing ads which are not permanent, traditional marketing ads are permanent. Once your ad is published in a magazine or newspaper, it will remain there until it gets recycled.
  3. People remember traditional ads as compared to digital ads. If you have created a perfect TV commercial ad, it will stay in people’s memory for a very long time. For example, super bowl ads are visually rich and stunning ads, and people love them.

Cons

  1. Traditional ad campaigns are difficult to measure as compared to digital marketing campaigns. There are literally no tools available to measure or track the performance of a conventional marketing ad campaign.
  2. As compared to digital ads, traditional ads are often expensive, and they require lots of investment. If you’re looking to create a TV commercial, you have to hire a film agency, pay the actors, and pay the TV channels to play your ad or if you want your ad to be displayed on some billboard, you’ll have to bear expenses of printing and pay rent of the billboard too.
  3. There is no direct contact or interaction with prospects; you don’t know what your audience thinks about your products or services because you’re unable to interact with them.
